LEA Guidance on appropriate use of the Internet

Following requests from schools for LEA guidance on Internet use and Web site policy the CELS group has approved the following documents. Please feel free to modify them for your own use.

  • Sample permission form for parents/carers (Word) or (PDF)

All governing bodies should develop/adopt a policy for Internet use and a copy of this policy should be distributed to all users and pupils' parents/guardians/carers. Parents/guardians/carers and all users should sign to acknowledge their acceptance of the conditions outlined in the policy. Schools should retain copies of all signed agreements.

It is recommended that a copy of the "Conditions of Internet Use" should be displayed in every room in the school where computers are used to access the Internet. The policy should also be included in the school brochure.

All members of staff are responsible for explaining the rules and their implications. All members of staff need to be aware of possible misuses of on-line access and their responsibilities towards students.

If a school witnesses a serious incident, relating to inappropriate use of the Internet, then they should refer the matter the their Link Adviser as they would a child protection issue.

Governing Bodies should be aware that the school's policy for Internet use should be kept under constant review.
