Sustainable development is a challenge that we all face if we are
to stop damaging the planet on which we all rely. The actions we take
today no longer remain within local boundaries, but have global repercussions
and we need to learn how these actions impact future generations.
Young people develop attitudes and values from their own experiences
at home and at school, so it is important that education is used to
promote the concepts of sustainable development and instil knowledge,
values and skills to enable future generations to responsibly maintain
a sustainable environment.
ESD increases pupils awareness of the wider world, and helps them
understand that they can contribute in a positive way to global issues
that otherwise they may have felt powerless about.
