Internet Safety

The Learning Zone is primarily a service for schools, but it is also accessible from home, libraries and city learning centres. For this reason we have provided pupil and parent areas on the website to provide information about the curriculum, revision and homework. So as a parent it is worthwhile to check that your child is accessing the Internet safely.

At school

Pupils using The Learning Zone in school and other public areas are protected from unsuitable material on the Internet, although no protection systems can guarantee to screen out 100% of such material. However, it is highly unlikely that children at school will be faced with unsuitable material unless they deliberately seek it out! Schools will be educating children in appropriate uses of the Internet to minimise risks. Children will also be advised on how to deal with any unsuitable material that they do encounter. School access to the Internet will include a range of protection systems but these will not generally operate if you or your children access The Learning Zone outside school.

At Home

When using The Learning Zone or any other Internet service from home parents can take responsibility for children's use of the Internet in several ways.
  • Always supervise your children when they are using the Internet.
  • Talk to your children and agree what is acceptable use in your family.

  • Consider the use of content filtering and protection software.

  • Point your children towards sites and services which are known to be checked and filtered.
